A Moroccan delegation took part on Saturday in Touba (central Senegal) in the official ceremony of the 130th edition of the Grand Magal commemorating the departure into exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, founder of the Mouride brotherhood.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation led by Younes Sibari, president of Kenitra’s local Ulema Council, was received by the spokesman of the Khalifa General of the Mourides, Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadre.

In a statement to MAP following the meeting, Abdou Khadri Mbacke, advisor to the Khalifa General of the Mouride brotherhood, welcomed the Moroccan delegation’s visit to Senegal to take part in the ceremony. “As in previous editions, Morocco’s participation in this event is always remarkable,” he said.

For his part, Sibari said that the Moroccan Ulema delegation’s visit to Senegal, at the invitation of the Khalifa General of the Mourides, aims to strengthen relations between Moroccan Ulema and their Senegalese counterparts.

In this respect, he stressed Morocco’s interest to strengthening its relations with African countries in general and to religion in Africa in particular, highlighting the efforts of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema and the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imam, Murshidin and Murshidat (male and female religious counselors) and their role in showcasing religion’s true imaging and spreading enlightened religious thought.
