Morocco’s Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills Younes Sekkouri held talks on Friday in Rabat with the Minister of Labor and Employment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, focusing on bolstering bilateral cooperation in the fields of employment, vocational training and youth integration.
Exchanges between the two parties highlighted several common areas, notably labor mobility, mechanisms for exchanging workers, and promoting partnerships with Morocco’s National Office for Vocational Training and Employment Promotion (OFPPT) and sectoral training centers.
This meeting is part of South-South cooperation’s momentum, driven by the foresighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to establish structuring partnerships between African countries around shared economic and social priorities.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Onyejeocha expressed her country’s willingness to learn from Morocco’s experience in order to advance the “Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP)”, launched on April 15 by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She noted that LEEP is a flagship skills development and employment program in Nigeria, aiming to create up to 2.5 million jobs.
“We have noted that Morocco already has an operational platform, and we are convinced that such a model could also succeed in Nigeria”, she emphasized.
For his part, Sekkouri noted that this meeting caps off a year of intense exchanges between the two countries, testifying to the quality of bilateral relations.
He stressed the importance of training, qualification and sustainable integration of youth, underlining that exchanges with the Nigerian minister open up concrete prospects for collaboration, particularly in the fields of vocational training and skills development.
Sekkouri expressed Morocco’s willingness to further this dynamic through operational partnerships focused on tangible results in favor of African youth, noting that the two countries stand as “important pillars for African nations and for the African dream”.
The Nigerian delegation’s visit to Morocco aims to strengthen the foundations of a structured dialogue between the two ministries, with a view to building exemplary cooperation between the two countries in the fields of training, employment and professional integration.
