Moroccan Parliament Holds Seminar on Migration, Climate Disruptions

A seminar on migration and climate disruptions is set to take place on Tuesday, jointly organized by the Moroccan Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The seminar marks the culmination of the project “Support for the development of the Parliament’s role in consolidating democracy in Morocco 2020-2023,” funded by the European Union and executed by the Council of Europe, as announced in a press release from the Parliament.

The discussions will primarily delve into the intricate relationship between migration patterns and sustainable development, focusing on aspects such as migrant integration and the retention of skills and talents. Attendees will examine the extent of this phenomenon in both Morocco and Europe, while brainstorming strategies to tackle current and future challenges posed by climate change.

In addition to exploring Moroccan practices, the seminar will spotlight the PACE’s perspective on integration policies and the pivotal role of migrant and refugee women in facilitating migrant integration, according to sources involved.

The opening session, to be presided over by prominent figures including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, the Speakers of the House of Councillors, Enaam Mayara, the President of the PACE, Theodoros Rousopoulos, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, Patricia Llombart Cussac, will gather leaders of parliamentary groups and members of the Moroccan Parliament, along with representatives from key commissions and ministries.

The seminar underscores a concerted effort to address pressing global issues at the intersection of migration and climate change, signaling a collaborative approach between Moroccan and European stakeholders in seeking viable solutions.
