Morocco is bracing for a cold spell across several provinces, with heavy rain, occasional thunderstorms, snowfall above 1,500 m, and strong winds expected.
Heavy rain with occasional thunderstorms (100–150 mm) is forecast for Wednesday from midnight to 11:00 a.m. in Chefchaouen, M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Tanger-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, and Fahs-Anjra, according to the weather authorities, who have issued a red-level alert.
Rainfall of 40–80 mm is also expected from Monday at 10:30 a.m. to midday in the provinces of M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Tanger-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Taounate, and Al Hoceima.
During the same period, heavy rain with occasional thunderstorms (25–40 mm) will affect Sidi Kacem, Kenitra, Ifrane, Taza, Moulay Yaacoub, Sefrou, Fez, Khenifra, El Hajeb, Meknes, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Salé, Rabat, Khemisset, and Sidi Slimane. Rainfall of 40–60 mm is also expected in Al Hoceima, Taounate, Taza, and Kenitra from midnight to 11:00 p.m.
Snowfall of 40–60 cm at elevations above 1,500 m is anticipated from Monday at 2:00 p.m. through Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. in Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, Guercif, Ifrane, Midelt, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, and Tinghir. Snowfall of 10–40 cm is expected in Al Haouz, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Chefchaouen, and Al Hoceima.
Strong winds of 75–85 km/h are forecast from Monday at 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in Taza, Jerada, Figuig, Guercif, Boulemane, Midelt, Taourirt, and Nador. The same conditions are expected on Tuesday from midnight to 8:00 p.m. in Boulemane, Sefrou, Taroudant, Ifrane, Tinghir, Figuig, Tata, Ouarzazate, and Midelt.
Even stronger winds of 75–100 km/h are expected from Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Tanger-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Taza, Taounate, Guercif, Al Hoceima, Moulay Yaacoub, Sefrou, Fez, Boulemane, Midelt, Ifrane, El Hajeb, Meknes, Khemisset, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Nador, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Berkane, Sidi Slimane, Kenitra, and Sidi Kacem.
Subzero temperatures (-6 to 0 °C) are also expected on Tuesday in Al Haouz, Azilal, Tinghir, Midelt, and Ouarzazate.
