In the context of the French Republic President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of France’s support for Moroccan sovereignty over its Sahara, French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati welcomed “a historic day for Franco-Moroccan relations”.
“I am honoured to be present in Morocco on this historic day for Franco-Moroccan relations. This course of history is essential and irreversible and we are all its architects”, shared Dati on her X account.
The French minister, who attended the festivities marking the 25th anniversary of the Sovereign’s enthronement, paid tribute to HM the King and the French Head of State “for their ambitious visions”.
“Tributes are paid to HM King Mohammed VI and to President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron for their ambitious visions for our two peoples, both aware that, from one side of the Mediterranean to the other, our future can only be common. Long live the Kingdom of Morocco and long live France!”
The message sent to HM King Mohammed VI by French President Emmanuel Macron confirms Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, she told the press following the reception hosted by HM King Mohammed VI on Tuesday in M’diq to mark the Throne Day.
Dati expressed her hope that this new position of Paris would enable the development of important strategic partnerships for Morocco, France and the European Union, recalling the long-standing ties and friendship between Morocco and France.
In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, French President Emmanuel Macron officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty”.
