Following the extra-sporting events, which marked the trip to Algiers of the Moroccan team of Berkane (RSB), to play the semi-final first leg of the Confederation Cup against the Union Sportive of Algiers (USMA) , the CAF has just delivered its verdict, announced in a press release.
As a reminder, the RSB and USMA match, initially scheduled for April 21, was canceled following the refusal of the Algerian authorities to authorize the Moroccan team to wear its traditional jersey, flocked with the complete map of Morocco, an outfit , however, duly approved by the CAF.
The attitude of the Algerian authorities, who seem to have confused sport and politics, went so far as to requisition the jerseys of the Berkani team, and block Moroccan players and staff for several hours at Houari Boumediene Airport, upon their arrival in Algeria on April 19.
A political and unsporting gesture for CAF which, in the spirit of its statutes and regulations, ended up declaring the defeat of the Algerian team by three goals to zero, while maintaining the return match, scheduled for Sunday April 28 in Berkane, and by emphasizing, beyond that, that possible sanctions would be pronounced by its disciplinary Jury, against the Algerian party, due to the seriousness of the actions.
