Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan is starting the production of his latest film “The Odyssey” this month, and Morocco is one of the key locations for the shoot, the Cinemaholic reported.
The movie, which is based on Homer’s famous greek epic, will also be filmed in the UK and Rome, Italy, according to the report.
It marks Nolan’s 13th feature film and his follow-up to blockbuster and Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
The epic tells the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his adventurous journey after the Trojan War.
The tale spans a decade with Odysseus facing several challenges, including encounters with mythical creatures like the Cyclops and Sirens, interference from Greek gods, and dangerous natural obstacles such as shipwrecks.
Meanwhile, back in Ithaca, his wife Penelope fends off persistent suitors who believe Odysseus to be dead. Their son Telemachus also begins a journey to find his father.
The film’s plot is expected to feature Nolan’s signature storytelling style, which includes complex and non-linear narratives. His works often explore deep concepts like time, memory, identity, and the nature of reality.
The Odyssey cast reportedly features stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, among others.
Nolan is producing the movie alongside Emma Thomas, his wife and long-time collaborator.
Morocco has become a top choice for international filmmakers. Movies like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Mission Impossible were filmed in iconic places in the Sahara among other locations.
In addition, HBO series Game of Throne filmed several scenes in Morocco. Specifically, Essaouira and Ouarzazate were chosen as a backdrop for these scenes for their ability to represent various locations in the fictional world of Westeros.
