Authorities in the northern city of Al Hoceima have arrested a man in his twenties suspected of operating WhatsApp groups used to share answers to Morocco’s baccalaureate exams in exchange for money, the local public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday.
The arrest was carried out by the regional unit of the judiciary police as part of broader efforts to monitor and crack down on exam-related cheating, the prosecutor said in a statement.
Electronic equipment and other materials relevant to the investigation were seized during a legally authorized search, the statement added.
The suspect has been placed in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, which said efforts are ongoing to identify and detain additional accomplices.
Legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete, the prosecutor’s office said.
