Morocco Braces for Snow, Cold Snap, and Strong Winds This Week

Morocco’s weather authority has issued an orange-level alert as the country prepares for snowfall, a cold wave, and strong wind gusts from Tuesday to Thursday across several provinces.

Snow is expected above 1,200 meters, with accumulations of 15–25 cm starting Tuesday at 11 p.m. in the provinces of Ifrane, Boulemane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Midelt, Azilal, and Beni Mellal.

Meanwhile, lighter snowfall of 5–15 cm is forecast above 900 meters from Tuesday at 11 a.m. to Wednesday at 8 a.m. in Taza, Chichaoua, Figuig, Driouch, Jerada, Taourirt, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Berkane, and Oujda-Angad.

The cold snap will bring temperatures as low as -13°C in Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Midelt, and Boulemane, while other provinces, including Jerada, Taourirt, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taza, Chefchaouen, Figuig, Chichaoua, Taroudant, and Ouarzazate, can expect temperatures ranging from -6°C to 0°C during the same period.

Adding to the challenges, strong winds with gusts of 75–85 km/h are forecast from Tuesday at 11 a.m. to Wednesday at 3 a.m. in Boulemane, Midelt, Nador, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Al Haouz, Tiznit, Tinghir, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, Ouarzazate, Guelmim, and Assa-Zag.
