Morocco got off to a good start in Addis Ababa this Wednesday as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) for the 2026–2028 term, following its election by the Executive Council during the 48th Ordinary Session held on February 11–12.
This new mandate marks Morocco’s third term on the PSC since its return to the AU in 2017. It provides the Kingdom with an opportunity to continue its work, guided by HM the King’s vision for a stable, unified Africa that is resolutely committed to sustainable development.
Morocco has previously served two terms on the Council, a three-year mandate (2022–2025) and a two-year mandate (2018–2020). During these periods, Morocco contributed constructively to enhancing working methods and promoting best practices alongside fellow PSC members.
This new mandate is a continuation of the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to strengthening the Council’s role in conflict prevention, management, and resolution across the continent.
It also reflects HM the King’s efforts to advance a stable Africa, with an approach to conflict resolution grounded in reason, respect for international law, and the pursuit of peaceful solutions.
During this new term, Morocco will pay particular attention to strengthening the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) by supporting efforts to consolidate continental mechanisms for conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy, and mediation.
The Kingdom will also continue to promote a proactive approach to crisis and conflict prevention, grounded in risk anticipation, early warning systems, and the enhancement of African capacities for the management and peaceful settlement of disputes.
