In application of the High Royal Instructions and with a view to announcing the implementation phases of the government program for the rehabilitation of areas affected by the floods of December 14 in Safi, the Steering Committee for the program met on Tuesday at the provincial headquarters, following its approval at the central level by various concerned partners.
This meeting confirms the effective commitment to the implementation of the program’s priorities on the ground, as the Steering Committee has been set up as an inclusive institutional and legal framework responsible for directly overseeing the application and support of the agreed measures, coordinating the interventions of various actors, monitoring the implementation phases, and evaluating the concrete impact of different interventions.
The technical work carried out by the specialized committees helped conduct a precise census of the homes and businesses affected and to assess the condition of roads, networks, and public infrastructure, thus providing a database to develop the program and define its priorities and implementation modalities.
During this meeting, the contracting parties were introduced and the commitments of each of the stakeholders were presented, in addition to a detailed presentation on the main areas of the program focusing on support for the rehabilitation of damaged homes, for the restoration of affected businesses and assistance in resuming their activities, as well as support for affected street vendors through a project to relocate them near Bab Chaâba.
This program also includes a component dedicated to the development, reinforcement, and rehabilitation of roads and affected areas, the completion of cleaning, dredging, and consolidation of pipes, the upgrading of social centers, and support for local activities in the medina of Safi, in addition to initiatives in favor of affected groups.
In this context, and in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasis was placed on the importance of overall mobilization and the strengthening of coordination mechanisms between all stakeholders, so as to ensure the effective, consistent, and integrated implementation of the planned measures.
On this occasion, participants highly praised this noble Royal Gesture, which illustrates the steadfast care that His Majesty the King continually shows to citizens, and reflects the spirit of commitment and responsibility in managing the repercussions of natural disasters, through a supportive and comprehensive approach based on proximity, listening, and meeting the basic needs of the population.
In this regard, all participants emphasized that this project represents a model of a coherent approach to managing the effects of natural disasters, advocating effective action on the ground and the pooling of efforts to help restore socio-economic balance in the affected areas and strengthen the resilience of territories in the face of potential risks.
