The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity distributed humanitarian assistance on Thursday to 963 households across several communes in Al Haouz province.
This occurred as part of the nationwide “Grand Froid” operation, launched by King Mohammed VI.
The initiative targeted residents in some of the areas most exposed to harsh weather conditions and falling temperatures, including the communes of Tlat N’Yacoub, where 351 families benefited, Ighil with 278 households, and Aghbar, which accounted for 334 beneficiary families.
Aid packages consisted of basic food supplies and blankets, delivered by three field teams mobilized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
The teams included staff from the General Directorate of Social Services of the Royal Armed Forces, ensuring logistical support and on-the-ground coordination to reach remote and mountainous areas.
The Foundation’s intervention in the Marrakech-Safi region covers both Al Haouz and Chichaoua provinces, alongside similar operations carried out in other parts of the country, including Azilal and Khenifra in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, and Taroudant in Souss-Massa.
Conducted in close coordination with the Ministry of Interior, the “Grand Froid” operation targets 28 provinces experiencing sharp drops in temperature and significant rainfall and snowfall, benefiting an estimated 73,000 households nationwide.
The operation comes amid a severe cold spell that has swept across wide parts of Morocco in recent days, accompanied by heavy rainfall and flooding that have caused serious damage and death.
In Safi, floods claimed several lives, while cities such as Fez and Tetouan experienced significant disruptions due to rising waters and deteriorating weather conditions.
At the same time, mountainous and inland areas have faced intense cold and snowfall, leaving roads blocked and communities temporarily cut off.
Videos circulating widely on social media show residents wading through flooded streets, homes inundated with water, and entire villages struggling with snow accumulation and freezing temperatures.
