The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the finalists for the 2025 CAF Awards, and Morocco leads the list with the most nominations across key categories.

From national teams and coaches to clubs and individual players, Moroccan football has made its mark at every level.

National team of the year

The senior national team earned its nomination for National Team of the Year after a series of historic achievements. In October, Morocco set a world record by winning 16 consecutive matches, surpassing the previous mark held by Spain and Germany.

The streak included victories in World Cup qualifiers, AFCON qualifiers, and friendlies. Morocco also became the first African country to officially qualify for the 2026 World Cup, securing their spot with games to spare.

The U-20 national team was also nominated after winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Morocco defeated six-time champions Argentina 2–0 in the final.

This was Morocco’s first world title at any level, and the first for an Arab nation. It also made Morocco only the second African country to win the tournament, after Ghana in 2009.

CAF Player of the Year award

For the CAF Player of the Year award, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi was named one of the three finalists, joining Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen in the final shortlist

The 27-year-old Hakimi’s nomination follows an outstanding season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he played a key role in helping the club win four major trophies: the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.

Goalkeeper of the year

Two Moroccan goalkeepers were named finalists for Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year: Yassine Bounou and Munir Mohamedi.

Both were recognized for their strong performances during the 2024/25 season.

Bounou played a key role in helping Al Hilal win the Saudi Pro League and reach the final of the AFC Champions League.

He also delivered solid performances with Morocco’s national team and was nominated for the Yachine Trophy, which honors the world’s best goalkeeper.

Munir Mohamedi stood out with RS Berkane, helping the club win both the Botola Pro and the CAF Confederation Cup. His consistent form made him one of the most reliable goalkeepers in African club football.

Coach of the year

In the Coach of the Year (Men) category, Walid Regragui and Mohamed Ouahbi were both shortlisted. Regragui led the senior team to its record-breaking run and early qualification for the World Cup, while Ouahbi guided the U-20 squad to a historic World Cup title.

Youth player of the year

Ajax’s player Abdellah Ouzane helped Morocco win the U17 African Cup of Nations on home soil and was named player of the tournament

Watford’s Othmane Maamma played a key role in Morocco’s U20 World Cup victory and also earned the tournament’s Best Player award.

Both were nominated for Young Player of the Year, showing the strength of Morocco’s youth development programs.

Women’s player of the year

In women’s football, Al Hilal player Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy were nominated for Player of the Year, while Khadija Er-Rmichi was shortlisted for Goalkeeper of the Year. Both played for ASFAR and were key players in Morocco’s run in the last AFCON after they lost against South Africa in Morocco.

Interclub player of the year

Two Moroccan players were awarded Interclub player of the year: Mohamed Chaibi, who played a key role in Egypt’s Pyramids winning the CAF Champions League – their first continental title, and Oussama Lamloui who scored Morocco’s third goal in the CHAN final, securing their third title, and finished as the tournament’s top scorer. He also helped RS Berkane win the Botola Pro and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Club of the year

Moroccan clubs also made an impact. RS Berkane was named a finalist for Club of the Year (Men) after a strong season, winning the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The CAF Awards 2025 ceremony will take place in Rabat on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. (GMT+1). With finalists in eight major categories, Morocco’s dominance is clear.
