Morocco Expects Heavy Thunderstorms, Snowfall & Strong Winds on Friday & Saturday

Heavy rain with thunderstorms and a chance of hail, snowfall above 1,400 meters, and strong gusts of wind are forecast for Friday and Saturday in several provinces of the Kingdom, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).

Heavy rain with thunderstorms and risk of hail (40 to 65 mm) is expected from Friday at 6 a.m. to Saturday at the same time in the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Ouezzane, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, M’Diq-Fnideq, Taounate, Taza, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and Larache, according to the DGM in an orange level alert report.

The same phenomenon (30 to 40 mm) is expected during the same period in the provinces of Benslimane, Khouribga, Azilal, Khénifra, Fez, Sefrou, Moulay Yaâcoub, Béni Mellal, Driouch, Khémisset, Rabat, Salé, Skhirat-Témara, Meknès, Guercif, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, and Kénitra.

In addition, snowfall (20 to 40 cm) above 1,400 m is expected from Friday at 3 p.m. to Saturday at 9 p.m. in the provinces of Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Guercif, Taza, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Ifrane, and Khénifra.

Snowfall (10 to 20 cm) will also affect the provinces of Al Hoceima, Jerada, and Taourirt during the same period.

In addition, strong gusts of wind (85 to 95 km/h) are expected from Friday at 6 a.m. to Saturday at 6 a.m. in the provinces of Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Tetouan, Berkane, Midelt, Driouch, Figuig, Boulemane, Guercif, Taza, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Jerada, Nador, Oujda-Angad, and Taourirt.

Wind gusts (75 to 85 km/h) will also affect the provinces of Tata, Al Haouz, Tiznit, Larache, Zagora, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Tangier-Assilah, Skhirat-Témara, Khénifra, Ifrane, Azilal, Béni Mellal, El Hajeb, Meknes, Taroudant, Salé, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Ifni, Rabat, M’Diq-Fnideq, Fez, Ouezzane, Errachidia, Sefrou, Moulay Yaâcoub, Guelmim, Kenitra, and Khemisset, the DGM concludes.
