A security operation jointly carried out by the National Police and Customs officers at the El Guerguerat border post, South of Dakhla city, led on Saturday evening to the foiling of an international drug trafficking attempt and the seizure of 53 kilograms and 630 grams of cocaine, according to a security source.
Border control procedures and searches using sniffer dogs enabled the seizure of the drug shipment, which had been carefully concealed in hidden compartments of the chassis of an international freight truck bearing foreign license plates. The truck originated from a Sub-Saharan African country and was abandoned by its driver inside the border crossing, the same source specified.
A preliminary investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine the circumstances of the case, identify all individuals involved, and uncover the connections of these criminal activities both within Morocco and at regional and international levels.
This joint operation is part of the intensive and ongoing efforts by the various security services stationed at the El Guerguerat border post to combat international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as to monitor and fight all forms of transnational crime, the source concluded.
