Police officers in Sidi Ifni foiled, at the early hours of Friday, an international drug trafficking and illegal immigration attempt via maritime routes and seized one metric ton and 922 kilograms of Chira, according to a security source.

Police interventions led to the seizure of an inflatable dinghy equipped with two engines on a beach located approximately five kilometers from Sidi Ifni to the direction of the city of Tiznit. On board were seven people and jerry cans of gasoline, in addition to 50 bales of drugs weighing a total of one metric ton and 922 kilograms, the same source added.

A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the level of involvement of those arrested in this case linked to international drug trafficking and the organization of illegal immigration by sea.

This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the national security services to combat criminal networks involved in various forms of transnational crime.
