Morocco possesses all the necessary assets to successfully host a global event such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Momar Diongue, Director General of the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a panel discussion in Marrakech during the 33rd General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), Diongue noted that Morocco is fully equipped in terms of infrastructure, logistics, and experience.
“As an African country, Morocco has all the required infrastructure—sports, telecommunications, transportation, and hospitality—to organize the World Cup in optimal conditions,” said Diongue, who also serves on the executive board of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA).
The 2030 tournament will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, marking the first time the World Cup spans both Europe and Africa.
Diongue said Morocco’s strategic location and diplomatic posture have long positioned it as a bridge between continents. “Sport has the power to unite people,” he added, expressing confidence that the joint tournament will promote closer ties between nations.
He also praised Morocco’s footballing progress, particularly its historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the national team became the first African side to reach the semi-finals.
The AMAN General Assembly continues through Thursday with panel discussions, cooperation agreements, and the AMAN Awards for excellence in journalism and photography.
The event brought together heads of news agencies from across the Mediterranean. Opening remarks were delivered by Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, who also chairs the 2030 World Cup Committee.
