Morocco has made remarkable progress in women’s political empowerment and facilitating their presence in representative and deliberative institutions, the Lower House Speaker, Rachid Talbi Alami, said on Thursday, reflecting the impact of the proactive and intelligent legislation adopted.

In an address at the inauguration of the second edition of the Annual Parliamentary Forum on Equality and Parity, Talbi Alami indicated that women’s issues, rights, and empowerment, have been at the heart of the reforms adopted by the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

He noted that constitutional reforms made of gender equality in fundamental rights and liberties central and convergent provisions that resulted, and will result in several institutional, legislative, and organizational reforms, and executive orders.

He further mentioned the tangible incentives that have increased the number of women who provide for their households or contribute to their support from social economy resources and institutions to more than 270,000 women, the vast majority of whom are in rural areas.

“While these achievements are satisfying, they are certainly not enough,” he said. In this regard, he urged to build on the progress made in reform and avoid disputes over a social issue that is noble, legitimate, and historically significant.
