Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates and Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation commended, Tuesday in Laayoune, the ‘fruitful’ cooperation between the two countries in all fields of common interest.

In a joint communiqué issued at the end of the first session of the Morocco-Malawi Joint Cooperation Commission, the two ministers agreed to maintain the current momentum and reaffirmed their commitment to exploring new ways of cooperation in priority fields in future.

In this regard, Mr. Bourita underlined the need to put in place a constructive and a deep political dialogue with the Republic of Malawi and welcomes the convergence of visions of both sides on issues of common interest, marked by a common commitment to peace, stability, respect for sovereignty of States and democracy in Africa and in the world.

According to the joint communiqué, Morocco has committed to organize an Economic Promotion Week in the Kingdom, in 2024, to foster exchanges and explore the possibility of identifying cooperation opportunities in areas of common interest, in addition to a Moroccan economic mission to the Republic of Malawi, in 2025, to explore and identify investment opportunities for Moroccan economic operators.

Morocco has also committed to partake in an economic forum, in 2026, in the Republic of Malawi to promote economic and trade relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Malawi in areas of common interest, and to provide a new impetus to the dynamics of economic cooperation between the two countries through the realization of strategic projects and common opportunities.

At the multilateral level, both sides stressed the importance of intensifying their contacts with the aim of further harmonizing their positions within regional, continental, multilateral and international institutions, such as the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).
