Morocco has consistently promoted a Francophonie based on the values of cultural diversity, South-South cooperation, and human development, said on Friday the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti and Head of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors (GAF) in Addis Ababa, Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi.

This commitment is fully in line with the African Vision of HM King Mohammed VI, which places the continent at the heart of the Kingdom’s foreign policy, the diplomat emphasized during a meeting between the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and the GAF. She noted that, for Morocco, the Francophonie has long been a natural space for dialogue, exchange, and solidarity.

Morocco also attaches particular importance to multilingualism within African international and regional organizations, she continued, stressing that, convinced that no continental integration can be sustainable without inclusive and accessible communication, the Kingdom supports efforts to strengthen the effective use of the African Union’s working languages.

This approach aims to bring the continental institution closer to African citizens, particularly its youth, Alaoui M’hammdi further stated, noting that this inaugural meeting paves the way for establishing a tradition of dialogue, exchange, and consultation on issues of common interest between the African Union and the Group of Francophone Ambassadors in Addis Ababa.

The Group of Francophone Ambassadors is fully part of this dynamic and works in Addis Ababa to promote multilingualism, strengthen linguistic capacities, and enhance cultural diversity as a lever for cooperation and development, the diplomat affirmed, specifying that the GAF’s approach is rooted in an open and complementary vision, faithful to the spirit of the AU and the aspirations of African peoples.
