The historical experience and the continuous commitment of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in peacekeeping operations were highlighted, on Tuesday in New Delhi, during the first United Nations Troop Contributing Countries’ (UNTCC) Chiefs’ Conclave (UNTCC).
Speaking during a plenary session, FAR Brigadier General Abdelkrim Nejjar, who is heading the Moroccan delegation, said that the Kingdom’s participation in peacekeeping operations stems from a long tradition of commitment to international stability and solidarity, in line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
He recalled that Morocco has always answered to the calls of the international community to prevent conflicts and re-establish peace and security in the world, under the aegis of the UN as well as within the framework of bilateral partnerships.
The military official pointed out that the Kingdom’s participation rests on a solid constitutional foundation, with peace and security representing fundamental principles of the Moroccan Constitution.
This peaceful calling is rooted in the history of Morocco, whose soldiers have taken part, since the First and Second World Wards, in efforts to restore stability and end conflicts, he added.
He said that these operations are part of the continuity of Moroccan diplomacy and embody the Kingdom’s continuous political will, in line with the High Royal Guidelines, to peacefully resolve conflicts within the respect of states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
With these foundations, Morocco has led for more than six decades several deployments of troops in Africa and is still actively contributing within the framework of UN missions, he recalled, noting that the FAR have also taken part in operations in other continents.
Speaking on contemporary peacekeeping challenges, the FAR Brigadier General indicated that the international community is at a historical turning point, marked by the growing complexity of operational environments. He emphasized that adaptation is required at all levels, and necessitates more realistic mandates, better adapted structures and inclusive approaches.
In this context, he highlighted Morocco’s efforts in terms of strengthening capacities, citing mainly the creation, under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of a Center of Excellence for the training in peacekeeping operations.
He added that this center aims to ensure high-level training for military, police and civil staff, both national and international, called to serve in complex and multidimensional environments.
He recalled that Morocco remains a determined actor in the quest for lasting peace, within the respect of the sovereignty of host countries and consistent with field realities, with the constant objective of contributing to world stability, protecting civil populations and promoting credible and efficient multilateralism.
