Moroccan preparatory classes widely dominate the rankings of best foreign preparatory classes for French higher institutes entrance exams, according to a list published on Wednesday by French daily newspaper Le Figaro.
In an analysis of preparatory classes for higher institutes abroad, the newspaper reports scrutinizing the performance of scientific preparatory classes in French higher institutes entrance exams, choosing to base its findings primarily on the results of École Polytechnique (X) entrance exam, one of the most selective engineering institutions in France.
According to this ranking, Moroccan institutions occupy the top spots, reflecting a strong preparatory class system in the Kingdom and a quality training provided to students aiming to access these higher institutes.
Atop the science stream ranking is the Mohammed VI High School of Excellence (Lydex) in Benguerir. Over the last three years, 17.7% of its students have been accepted into the X in the mathematics-physics (MP) and physics-technology (PT) streams, the publication notes.
Second comes the Mediterranean High School (Lymed) in Tetouan followed by Al Zahrawi High School in Rabat, from which 8.8% and 7% of students respectively entered the prestigious French engineering school during the same period.
Several other Moroccan schools also feature in the top 10 of this ranking, notably Moulay Driss High School in Fez, Ibn Timiya High School in Marrakesh, Mohammed V High School and Mohammed VI High School of Excellence in Casablanca, as well as Ibn Ghazi High School in Rabat, which also boast significant admission rates to the École Polytechnique in 2026.
Moroccan institutions also confirm their leadership in economics and business studies. The La Résidence school group in Casablanca tops the ECG (economics and business general track) rankings, with 19 candidates admitted to French schools and 14 assigned.
According to Le Figaro, a large attachment to the preparatory class system in the Kingdom could explain the strong presence of Moroccan institutions in this ranking.
Some 10,000 students are assigned there each year, a minority selected from among the best in the country, the French daily newspaper notes.
