Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, announced on Friday in Rabat, that 5G technology is set to be deployed in several Moroccan countries, with a view of its progressive generalization to reach 85% of the population by 2030.
Speaking to the press following the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) meeting, Akhannouch underlined that launching the technology forms part of an ambitious program that warranted a total investment of MAD 80 billion, which is set to provide modern and advanced services for different users.
He added that the government is working, with the private sector, to mobilize major investments in order to improve the telecommunications network and expand internet coverage to satisfy the population’s growing demand.
Akhannouch also emphasized the importance of ensuring a comprehensive coverage of regions with weak or lacking telecoms networks, particularly rural and mountainous areas, noting that thorough mapping would be carried out to identify just such regions.
This joint program between the State and the private sector is designed to improve the quality of telecommunications services and guarantee wider access to the Internet,” the Head of Government concluded.
