Morocco is set to host the 2024 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League from November 9 to November 23, as announced today by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The tournament will feature eight clubs competing for the title. Six zonal tournaments were held to qualify six teams, in addition to the host nation and the defending champion.
The qualified teams include AS FAR (Morocco – host and 2022 champion), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa – defending champion), Aigles de la Medina (Senegal), Edo Queens (Nigeria ), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) (Ethiopia), University of the Western Cape (South Africa), and Tutankhamun (Egypt).
This hosting opportunity follows Morocco’s successful organization of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, which received widespread acclaim from participants and fans alike.
Since its creation, the CAF Women’s Champions League has served as a pillar in popularizing women’s football across Africa.
The tournament continues to grow in prestige and importance, providing a platform for the best women’s clubs to showcase their talents and sporting skills.
The CAF Women’s Champions League is an annual tournament that gathers top clubs from Africa, with the winners set to receive $400,000 and runners-up taking home $250,000.
Mamelodi Sundowns, the current holders, have won the tournament twice in three years, while AS FAR claimed the title in 2022 after defeating them.
