Morocco is well placed to achieve its energy transition, leveraging its abundant renewable resources and a rapidly growing automotive sector, Stefane Bantle, Minister-Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Rabat, said on Thursday.
“With its renewable energy potential and expanding automotive industry, Morocco is well positioned to drive its energy transition and decarbonize its transport sector,” Bantle said at the Green Impact Expo & Summit (GIES 2025) in Casablanca.
He highlighted long-standing German-Moroccan cooperation as a key factor in accelerating this transition, adding that their strategic partnership in energy and sustainable transport offers Morocco a competitive edge in decarbonizing its infrastructure.
For his part, Christian Hochfeld, Executive Director of Agora Verkehrswende, a German think-tank focused on transport energy transition, stressed that deepening German-Moroccan cooperation will be crucial for Morocco to position itself as a leader in transport decarbonization across Africa.
The conference was organized under the IMPROVE project, commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and implemented by GIZ, in partnership with Morocco’s transport ministry. It forms part of joint efforts to advance energy transition and decarbonization in line with global climate goals.
