Morocco’s unanimous election to chair the 57th United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, reflects the trust that African countries have in the role played by the Kingdom in the continent, emphasized Moroccan expert at UNECA, Nabil Jedlane.
This election demonstrates African countries’ trust in Morocco’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in promoting peace, prosperity, and development in Africa, the economics professor said in a statement following the election, which took place on Wednesday at the UNECA headquarters in Addis Ababa.
This shows once again that Morocco is a country of peace, conducting winning partnerships with African nations, he stressed, noting that this will help the Kingdom strengthen its relations with African countries and reinforce its position as a trusted partner and gateway to Africa.
The theme of this 57th session is “Advancing the implementation of the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area: proposing transformative strategic actions”, also covering the issues of digitization, technology, food security and energy transformation.
The session kicked off with the Committee of Experts meeting on March 12-14, followed by side events on March 15 and 16.
