Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) has pledged to carry out an overhaul transformation of the country’s air navigation system as part of its Airports 2030 strategy.
In a statement today, ONDA stated that its goal is to equip Morocco with a “more efficient, resilient, air traffic management system” that meets the most demanding international standards.
Commenting on its strategy, ONDA said the approach is based on the “progressive modernization of control towers, integrating next-generation technological equipment.”
It also pledged continuous upskilling of operational teams to improve and streamline operations amid sustained growth in air traffic.
The statement notably cited the new control tower at Nador El Aroui Airport as an example, sta. The tower stands 26 meters high and is built across eight levels to reflect the authority’s commitment to support regional economic and tourism development.
In 2024, the Nador Airport welcomed over one million passengers last year.
“ONDA reaffirms its leading role in the modernization of Moroccan air transport and its commitment to providing the Kingdom with world-class infrastructure, built on excellence, safety, and innovation,” the statement concluded.
The press release comes as the Moroccan airports authority pledges more efforts ahead of the country hosting prestigious events, including the 2025 AFCON and the 2030 World Cup.
Fans excited to attend the AFCON are already booking their tickets from across the world.
According to a statement from CAF last week, France tops the list of countries that booked their tickets for AFCON (109,237) in the first two phases of sales.
Belgium comes second (7,046), then the Netherlands (5,958), followed by the UK, Canada, as well as Germany, Switzerland, the US, Spain, and Italy.
“The enthusiasm extends far beyond the continent, with supporters eager to be part of one of the world’s most celebrated football spectacles,” CAF said.
Morocco welcomes millions of tourists every year. In 2024 alone, the North African country recorded 17.4 million visitors.
Forecasts estimate that this year will end with the arrival of at least 18 million tourists.
In response to the growing demand in Morocco’s tourism market, ONDA recently launched a public tender for the construction of a new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, with a value of $1 billion.
This represents one of the largest infrastructure developments in the country’s aviation history.
