Morocco’s El Moutawakel Elected Vice-President of International Olympic Committee

Former Moroccan Olympic Champion Nawal El Moutawakel was elected vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday during the second day of the Committee’s 142nd session in Paris.

Moutawakel was elected IOC vice-president alongside Argentina’s Gerardo Werthein, with their terms of office beginning on August 10, after the end of the 142nd IOC session, the Committee said in a press release.

Member of Morocco’s National Olympic Committee, the retired athlete has a long experience with the IOC where she previously served as vice-president from 2012 to 2016.

Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the IOC is a non-governmental organization that oversees the organization of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, promotes the values of Olympism, and supports the global development of sports.
