Morocco’s election to the Board of Directors of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and its reelection to the Postal Operations Council (POC) for the 2026-2029 period enshrines the Kingdom’s position as a major player in international postal development, Morocco’s national postal service, Barid Al-Maghrib Group, said.

This double election, which took place during the 28th Universal Postal Congress, held recently in Dubai, also reflects the confidence granted to the Kingdom’s expertise by member countries and confirms the key role of Barid Al-Maghrib in the sector’s progress both regionally and internationally, the Group said in a press release.

Morocco thus joins the 41 Board of Directors member countries, tasked with overseeing the UPU’s activities between Congresses, and preserves its presence within the Postal Operations Council, comprising 48 countries and responsible for technical and operational issues, the same source added, noting that the Kingdom’s election to the two UPU decision-making bodies is a recognition of the relevance of its strategy of modernizing, digitalizing and diversifying postal services.

On the sidelines of the Dubai Congress, the Barid Al-Maghrib Group and the Syrian Post signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening exchanges between the two institutions, notably through the development of modern postal services, the promotion of electronic transfers, cooperation in e-commerce, and the sharing of technical and operational expertise.

At the outset of the Congress, Barid Al-Maghrib and Saudi Post signed two major strategic agreements aimed at supporting the growth of e-commerce and optimizing logistics flows between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

Through these initiatives, Barid Al-Maghrib confirms its role as a catalyst within the UPU and its ambition to consolidate structural partnerships in the service of regional and global economic integration, the press release concluded.
