Morocco’s experience in preventing and combating corruption was highlighted, Monday in Washington, during a series of meetings between the president of the National Authority for Integrity, Prevention and Combating Corruption (INPPLC), Mohamed Benalilou, and US and international officials.

These meetings, which Mr. Benalilou held at the US Department of State, the World Bank Group, the World Justice Project (WJP), the American University’s College of Law, and the Open Government Partnership, provided an opportunity to review the Kingdom’s efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to prevent and combat corruption through a process of reforms reinforced by Morocco’s ratification of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

This process was enshrined in the 2011 Constitution, which established the INPPLC within the institutional architecture of good governance by granting it a clear constitutional basis within the framework of the system for supporting integrity and preventing and combating corruption.

Mr. Benalilou also reviewed the INPPLC’s responsibilities and powers, highlighting a number of relevant international indicators, including Factor 2 of the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index related to the absence of corruption.

The INPPLC delegation’s visit to these institutions and organizations in Washington also provided an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the fight against corruption at the international level and its current challenges, as well as to strengthen the National Authority’s analytical capabilities, support its strategic vision, and open up prospects for multilateral institutional cooperation and partnerships.

The visit also aims to strengthen Morocco’s presence in international anti-corruption bodies in a spirit of initiative and partnership, thereby consolidating its position in the dynamics of international cooperation in this area, within the framework of an institutional vision that links the national dimension of integrity to the international dimension of reform and reflects the complementarity between national priorities and international cooperation, according to a statement from the INPPLC.

The visit also reflects Morocco’s clear institutional commitment to international efforts to combat corruption, both as an initiator, actor, and beneficiary.
