Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) inaugurated on Friday its new direct route linking Brussels to Tetouan, marking a new step in strengthening air connectivity between Morocco and Belgium.

The inaugural flight of this new service, operated twice a week (Monday and Friday), departed from Brussels National Airport in Zaventem at 12:15 p.m. bound for Tetouan-Sania R’mel Airport. This initiative aims to improve connectivity to the northern region of the Kingdom and support its tourism and economic attractiveness.

On this occasion, a reception was held in the departure area of Brussels Airport, attended by numerous passengers from the Moroccan community in Belgium as well as Belgian citizens wishing to travel to the northern region of the Kingdom.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of Royal Air Maroc in Belgium, Morocco’s ambassador to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Mohamed Ameur, as well as officials from Brussels Airport, the country’s largest airport hub.

In a statement to MAP, Ameur described the opening of this new air route as “excellent news,” noting that it is “much more than just a flight,” as it symbolizes closer ties between Morocco and Belgium and strengthens the bonds between the peoples of both countries.

He added that this new service will undoubtedly help promote and facilitate travel for Moroccans living in Belgium to their home country, especially since many of them originate from the northern region of Morocco.

Ameur also emphasized that this air route will boost tourism in northern Morocco, a region with remarkable historical and cultural heritage, and foster economic exchanges and cultural cooperation between the two Kingdoms.

For his part, RAM’s regional director for the Benelux, Mohamed Issam Mosseddaq, stated that the Brussels-Tetouan direct route strengthens RAM’s network in the region and complements existing routes from the Belgian capital to Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Nador, and Tangier.

“Through this launch, Royal Air Maroc continues its commitment to bringing Morocco and Europe closer together by offering better connectivity to meet the expectations of our compatriots living in the region and tourists from the Benelux who wish to discover the city of Tetouan and its surrounding areas,” he explained.

The new route will also help stimulate tourism by enabling Belgian tour operators to market travel packages departing from Brussels.

In preparation for the launch of this new service, RAM rolled out a one-month promotional campaign, including targeted advertising in metro stations near neighborhoods with a high concentration of the Moroccan community, visuals on Brussels trams, as well as radio spots.
