Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi held talks in Doha with his counterpart from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Azam Nazeer Tarar, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the legal and judicial fields and exchanging views on issues of common interest.
This meeting, held on the sidelines of the Doha Legal Forum, was an opportunity to reaffirm the depth of ties between the two countries, marked by mutual respect and ongoing coordination, particularly in the field of justice, according to a press release from the ministry.
The two parties stressed the importance of developing legal and judicial cooperation mechanisms in order to keep pace with global legislative and technological changes and contribute to reinforcing the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, the same source added.
The meeting also focused on ways to enshrine Morocco-Pakistan cooperation in areas of judicial training, exchange of expertise in the modernization of legislation and the development of court management mechanisms, as well as sharing experiences relating to the use of alternative dispute resolution methods, in particular arbitration and mediation, as essential tools for strengthening legal certainty and improving the business climate, the statement said.
In this regard, the two ministers stressed the need to accompany these developments with a balanced legislative framework that reconciles efficiency and innovation, while guaranteeing the protection of rights and freedoms and consolidating the principles of transparency and accountability.
Ouahbi and Tarar also spoke of strengthening cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime, particularly terrorism, money laundering, and financial crimes, through the exchange of expertise and data and the establishment of mutual legal assistance mechanisms, in full compliance with national legislation and the legal sovereignty of each country.
For his part, the Pakistani Minister of Justice welcomed the reforms undertaken in the justice sector in the Kingdom, praising Morocco’s experience in modernizing the judicial system and strengthening judicial governance.
He reaffirmed his country’s willingness to promote cooperation with Morocco in various areas related to justice, in the service of common interests and legal stability, the press release adds.
The two ministers reiterated their common desire to continue strengthening legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries through more frequent exchanges of visits, organizing technical meetings, and participating in international fora, in order to establish an effective partnership in the field of justice and support joint efforts to establish modern legal systems capable of meeting development requirements and global change.
