Morocco’s major advances in the digital field were highlighted on Saturday in Abidjan, at the first edition of the “Let’s Talk Best Business” Forum, an event held under the theme “economic information at the heart of business development”.

Speaking via videoconference, President of the Moroccan Observatory for Digital Sovereignty (OMSN) Mustapha Meloui said that “Morocco has all the assets to become a true African +Digital Nation+”, noting that the Kingdom has launched several national programs to support digital development.

This ambition, he said, is based on four main axes, namely, a digital administration at the service of citizens and businesses, a competitive economy, digital inclusion of citizens thanks to digital and the training digital talents (qualified human capital).

While highlighting Morocco’s commitment to providing excellent training to ensure a skilled human capital base, Meloui noted that the Kingdom has the highest level of development in information and communication technologies (ICT) in Africa, according to a report published on December 15, 2023 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

By indicator, explains the expert, Morocco far exceeds the world average of 70.5% of “individuals using the Internet”, and registers a rate of 92.8% for “households with Internet access at home” and 3G/4G coverage, whose respective world averages are 70.8% and 92.5%. The Kingdom remains well positioned, with rates of 90.7% and 99.2% respectively, according to the same report.

Meloui pointed out that the Kingdom is preparing its “Maroc Digital 2030” strategy, which will undoubtedly be the roadmap for digital development and will establish Morocco as a benchmark digital and technological hub on the Continent.
