The Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, held talks, on Wednesday in Malabo, with the Senate President of the Parliament of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Teresa Efua Asangono, during his participation in the second ordinary session of the Parliament of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

On this occasion, Ould Errachid welcomed the historic ties of brotherhood between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, recalling in this respect the importance of the official visit paid by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the brotherly country in April 2009, which was able to provide a strong momentum to the bilateral ties and further diversify the areas of cooperation between the two countries, the Upper House said in a press release.

He said that the opening of a consulate general of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in Dakhla in 2020 represented a step with considerable symbolic meaning of support from the brotherly country to the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its southern provinces, the same source added.

At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the House of Councillors underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting the ties between the two countries, calling to further strengthen cooperation between the legislative institutions and the exchange of experiences and expertise.

For her part, Asangono reiterated the two sides’ continuous determination to bolster the ties of parliamentary cooperation at the service of the supreme interests of the two countries, noting that the memorandum of understanding sealed with the House of Councillors aims to implement cooperation mechanisms capable of strengthening dialogue and coordination between the two legislative institutions.

She expressed her will to see members and executives from the Equatoguinean Senate benefit from the accumulated experiences of the House of Councillors, mainly in parliamentary diplomacy.

The Senate President expressed her pride in having participated in the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, by the House of Councillors and the Association of Senates, Shura and equivalent councils of Africa and the Arab world, noting that participation in this event was an opportunity to forge relationships and exchange views with several presidents and representatives of national parliaments and regional groupings in Africa, the Arab world, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

She considered that the holding of this parliamentary event is in line with the policy adopted by the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, to strengthen and support South-South cooperation and solidarity, expressing his gratitude to the Sovereign for the keen interest His Majesty the King takes in the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation between African countries, including the exceptional cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
