Morocco’s Top Senator, Montenegro Parliament Speaker Seek to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation

Morocco’s House of Councillors Speaker Enaam Mayara held talks with Speaker of the Republic of Montenegro’s Parliament Andrija Mandić, currently leading a large parliamentary delegation on a visit to Morocco.

The discussions provided an opportunity to examine various aspects of cooperation between the two friendly countries and means of blostering collaboration in the parliamentary sphere, so as to further consolidate the distinguished bilateral relations, according to a press release from the House of Councillors.

In this regard, Mayara praised the quality of the political relations between the two countries, based on values of mutual respect and understanding, noting, however, that the volume of economic cooperation between the two countries still falls short of these ties’ excellent level.

Mayara also expressed the Upper House’s full willingness to support the government’s efforts in strengthening economic and commercial aspects of bilateral relations, citing several promising sectors with real opportunities for deepening the bilateral partnership, such as tourism, agriculture and sea fishing.

Regarding the question of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, the press release continued, the Speaker of the Upper House welcomed the position of the Republic of Montenegro in supporting the UN process for resolving this artificial conflict. He also referred to “the security situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, which is a breeding ground for armed groups, illegal immigration and human trafficking networks, posing serious threats to the African and European continents”.

For his part, the Speaker of Montenegro’s Parliament stressed the importance his country gives to developing relations with Morocco, noting that the two countries share common civilisational values and maintain an ongoing dialogue on regional and international issues of common interest.

Mandić further expressed his hope for his visit to mark a new chapter in bilateral cooperation, noting that his stay in the Kingdom will be marked by meetings with Moroccan officials in order to explore new horizons for cooperation.

He added that the two countries play a key role in the stability of their regions, pointing out that Montenegro’s officials closely follow Morocco’s efforts at African and international level in the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration and in favor of consolidating peace and stability.
