Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka held on Tuesday in Marrakech, several meetings with Arab and African officials responsible for the water sector, on the sidelines of the 19th World Water Congress, organized until December 5 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Baraka met with Sudanese Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qureshi Abdullah to discuss strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Sudan and the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of water.
In a statement to the press following these discussions, Qureshi Abdullah said that this meeting with his Moroccan peer opens up promising prospects for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas of rainwater harvesting, technical and logistical support, and digital transformation.
Emphasizing the depth of historical relations between the two countries, he said that a future cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the water sector in Sudan by drawing on Moroccan experience and expertise is underway.
Baraka also held talks with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water Resources Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Humoud bin Wasiud Alkarshami, focusing in particular on Morocco’s involvement in the preparatory process for the World Water Forum to be hosted by Saudi Arabia and on the financing of water projects by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
In a statement to the press, Alkarshami said that these talks had provided an opportunity to exchange views and reflect on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of water. He praised Morocco’s achievements in water management, which have made it a global model, and welcomed the success of the 19th World Water Congress.
Baraka then met with the Executive Director of the Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative in the United Arab Emirates, Aisha Al Ateeqi, and the Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Hannah Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne.
Speaking to the press following these talks, Baraka said that these meetings with Arab and African ministers and officials responsible for the water sector had enabled an exchange of expertise in the fields of renewable energy, desalination, and other sectors.
He specified, in this regard, that discussions provided an opportunity to strengthen the sharing of experiences and enshrine water cooperation with these brotherly and friendly countries.
