Moroccan international Nordin Amrabat arrived at Mohammed V International Airport on the morning of Saturday, May 24, marking the first step toward his official signing with Wydad AC.
The Casablanca-based club is preparing to represent Morocco in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to take place this summer in the United States.
The 38-year-old veteran winger has held advanced talks with Wydad officials in recent weeks, which have led to a preliminary agreement for him to join the team in the coming days.
Amrabat’s most recent professional stint was with Cypriot side APOEL, where he played between January and May 2025. He has now decided to end his European career and return to the Moroccan league through the gates of Wydad, bringing with him a wealth of experience from top-level European and Gulf football.
Wydad sees Amrabat’s signing as a valuable addition to strengthen their squad with an experienced player, especially ahead of major fixtures at the Club World Cup. The Moroccan champions are aiming to make a strong impression both continentally and globally.
The official announcement of Amrabat’s signing is expected in the coming days, after which he will begin training with Wydad’s squad in preparation for upcoming challenges. His return echoes the path of several Moroccan football stars who chose to end their careers on home soil.
Wydad will kick off their Club World Cup campaign on Wednesday, June 18, at 6 p.m. against Manchester City at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Their second match is set for Sunday, June 22, at the same venue and time against Juventus. The group stage will conclude with a match against Al Ain on Thursday, June 26, at 9 p.m. at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
In addition to Amrabat’s expected arrival, Wydad recently secured the signings of Burkinabé midfielder Stéphane Aziz Ki from Tanzanian side Young Africans, and forward Hamza Hannouri, formerly of FUS Rabat.
