Weir Group PLC, a global leader in mining technology, has secured a £25 million (around $33 Million) contract to deliver cutting-edge, energy-efficient solutions for the next phase of the OCP Group’s Benguerir and Louta phosphate projects in Morocco.
This strategic partnership reinforces OCP’s commitment to sustainable development while significantly increasing the country’s phosphate production, the company said in a statement.
The contract focuses on advancing OCP’s Benguerir project, which is set to triple its output, and continuing the construction of the greenfield Louta site, it added.
Weir will supply its industry-leading WARMAN® slurry pump and CAVEX® hydrocyclone technology, recognized for their energy efficiency and sustainable design, to ensure optimal separation and desliming processes.
According to the statement, these innovations will help OCP enhance productivity while aligning with its environmental goals. The Benguerir expansion is slated to come online following the completion of the project’s first phase, with initial production scheduled for 2024.
The site boasts an impressive projected lifespan of over 100 years, solidifying its importance in Morocco’s phosphate sector. Weir, which has previously supported OCP with similar technologies, will not only deliver the equipment but also provide aftermarket technical support.
The company said this venture will be managed by its Moroccan service center, located near the project sites, ensuring seamless integration and ongoing maintenance.
Jon Stanton, CEO of Weir Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.
“This contract is a strong endorsement of our WARMAN® and CAVEX® solutions, which offer energy-efficient separation at scale to support our customer’s productivity and sustainability goals,” he said. “Our local team is proud to continue delivering world-class service to OCP as they move forward with these exciting projects.”
While the £25 million contract is a significant addition to Weir’s portfolio, it will not impact the company’s financial outlook for 2024, according to a company statement issued on September 30.
As a world-leading producer of phosphate, OCP Group has been a driving force behind Morocco’s economic growth and global leadership in the fertilizer industry.
The expansion of the Benguerir and Louta projects underscores OCP’s commitment to meeting the world’s growing demand for agricultural products while focusing on sustainability and innovation.
