Following the historic turning point in the UN’s handling of the moroccan Sahara issue, in the wake of Resolution 2797/2025 adopted on October 31, 2025, by the UN Security Council, which supports autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty for the Southern Provinces of the Kingdom, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has decreed October 31st of each year a national holiday and an occasion on which the Sovereign bestows His pardon.
His Majesty the King, may God preserve him, has graciously chosen to name this national holiday “Eid Al Wahda”, with all that this implies in terms of meaning and references to national unity and the unwavering territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
The October 31st celebration, the first instituted since the 1979 commemoration of the recovery of Oued Eddahab and the very first celebration proclaimed under the reign of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is intended by the Sovereign as a symbol of national unity and a guarantee of an indivisible and unified Morocco, in harmony with the diversity of its religious influences, its ethnic plurality, and its cultural richness.
Aid Al Wahda will also be a symbol of collective memory and remembrance for the entire Moroccan people, a symbol that will perpetuate in history the struggle, the efforts and the sacrifices made by an entire Nation in favor of the completion of national territorial integrity.
