Parliamentarians from non-aligned countries, gathered on Sunday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as part of the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, adopted the Tashkent Declaration.
In this declaration, members of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, including Morocco, gathered in their 4th conference, reiterated their “unwavering commitment” to the principles and objectives of the movement of non-aligned countries, mainly sovereignty, territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence and multilateral cooperation, as well as the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs.
They recalled the “visionary” efforts of the movement’s founders to encourage peaceful coexistence, cooperation and sustainable development among all countries.
Conference participants also highlighted the key role of law, justice and good governance in achieving human rights and fundamental freedoms, and recognized the role of the parliaments of the member states of the non-aligned movement in ensuring respect for the movement’s founding principles, as well as realizing its ideals and objectives.
They also expressed concern at the persistence of complex global problems, including geopolitical tensions, armed conflict, growing economic inequality, climate change, energy and food crises, ongoing trade wars and the threat of pandemics, all of which represent major challenges for humanity.
The parliamentarians also reiterated the importance of achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the fields of health, education, housing, food security, poverty eradication, environmental sustainability and bridging the digital divide.
Themed “Honouring 70 years of the Bandung Conference: the role of parliaments in preserving the Bandung principles,” the 4th Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement was attended by a large Moroccan delegation, led by the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid.
