Caring for patients suffering from rare diseases relies on precision medicine capable of providing effective support,” stated Saber Boutayeb, Director of the Mohammed VI Center for Research and Innovation (CM6RI), affiliated with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences (FM6SS), on Friday in Rabat.
Speaking on the occasion of International Rare Disease Day, observed at the initiative of the FM6SS Precision Medicine Hub, Prof. Boutayeb emphasized that this event extends beyond the scientific framework to serve as a meeting ground for the various stakeholders involved in rare disease care in Morocco, who have played a significant role in the progress achieved so far.
“The objective of this meeting is to develop a common roadmap to combine the efforts of various actors and translate them into concrete successes for the benefit of Moroccan patients suffering from rare diseases,” he noted.
With the opening of the Precision Medicine Hub, FM6SS is translating the promise of precision medicine into concrete action for rare disease patients, Boutayeb said, adding that “by strengthening national referral pathways, enabling genomic and molecular diagnostics, and building multidisciplinary teams, we are laying the foundation for more timely, expert, and equitable care.”
Hosted at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex, the event convened clinical leaders, patient advocates, and policymakers to examine current gaps in rare disease management and outline actionable solutions to improve patient outcomes.
By positioning FM6SS as a national referral hub, the initiative aims to standardize care pathways, enable patient registries and real-world evidence generation, and reinforce capacity building among healthcare professionals.
