The 5th session of the Joint Parliamentary Committee between the House of Representatives and the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation was held on Thursday in Rabat, with the participation several officials and parliamentarians from both sides.

In a speech marking the occasion, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami stated that this fifth session marks the starting point of a renewed momentum in parliamentary relations, which will support the multidimensional cooperation between Morocco and Belgium within the framework of special political relations.

This session is held in an international context marked by the need for dialogue and communication and the pooling of efforts to uphold the values of peace, democracy, and coexistence, Talbi El Alami noted, adding that Morocco and Belgium are regarded as models of stability and cultural and linguistic diversity.

Belgium, and the Wallonia-Brussels region in particular, is home to a large Moroccan community—the largest worldwide relative to the geographical area, he noted, adding that the community’s vitality and its active participation in political, economic, social, and cultural life is a remarkable and unique case and a leading model of integration and inclusion.

On the theme of “Artificial Intelligence and Parliamentary Work,” subject of a session during this session, Talbi El Alami emphasized that this technology challenges parliaments insofar as they are called upon to adopt laws that regulate the limits and uses of artificial intelligence, in order to keep it under human control and ensure the protection of privacy and personal data.

He stressed the importance of equitable access to AI for citizens, noting that the international parliamentary community is called upon to focus joint efforts on formulating international policy proposals and visions regarding the use of artificial intelligence and the challenges associated with it.

On the subject of “The Protection of Children’s Rights,”Talbi El Alami highlighted the significant progress made by the Kingdom in this area, noting that Morocco was one of the first countries to sign the Convention on the Rights of the Child and has since implemented a series of reforms, laws, and institutions aimed at strengthening child protection, as part of a policy enshrined in the 2011 Constitution and placed at the heart of public policy.

For his part, President of the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Benoît Dispa, noted that through this meeting, Moroccan and Belgian parliaments are reaffirming their role in strengthening ties between the two countries and their peoples, highlighting that these assemblies give a voice to citizens and anchor bilateral relations in a vibrant democratic reality.

This partnership was bolstered thanks to the agreement signed in October 2025, which emphasizes cooperation in the areas of justice, economic development, and migration, he stated, noting that the creation of the Joint Committee in 2003 was intended to provide a parliamentary framework for a long-standing and rich bilateral relationship, and to offer parliamentarians a regular forum for exchange, collaboration, and dialogue.
