Nineteen people were killed and 2,445 injured, 93 of them seriously, in the 1,819 road accidents that occurred in urban areas during the period stretching from January 27 to February 3, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding and failure to keep a safe distance, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
Regarding the control and enforcement of traffic violations, the security services issued 51,549 tickets, submitted 9,368 reports to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 42,181 transactional fines totaling MAD 9.5 million, according to the same source.
The DGSN also reported the impoundment of 4,982 vehicles, the withdrawal of 9,368 driving licences and the immobilization of 480 vehicles.
