Twenty-seven people were killed and 2,771 injured, 93 of them seriously, in the 2,024 road accidents that occurred in urban areas on May 5-11, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, pedestrians’ inadvertence, failure to keep a safe distance and speeding, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
With regard to the control and repression of traffic offenses, security services drew up 52,143 tickets, 7,740 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 44,403 transactional fines were collected, amounting to 9,6 million dirhams, according to the same source.
