Royal Atlantic Initiative Highly Praised by Atlantic African States’ Parliamentary Speakers – Lower House Speaker

The initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at enabling Sahel States access to the Atlantic Ocean, has been highly praised by the Atlantic African States’ Parliamentary Speakers, affirmed the Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, on Thursday.

In a statement to the press following the meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Atlantic African States held in the Lower House, Talbi Alami highlighted that participants emphasized Morocco’s role, under His Majesty the King’s leadership, in supporting Africa’s development.

He stressed that all the Speakers expressed the “need to create an institution capable of supporting governments in implementing this project.”

In this regard, the Lower House Speaker announced the release of a Declaration praising the significance of His Majesty the King’s initiative, with participants expressing support for “an initiative that comes from Africa and is for Africa.”

The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which aligns with the Royal Atlantic Initiative, as it will connect 13 countries and allow these States to access energy, while supporting the development of their mining industries, he said.

This event aims to foster inter-parliamentary dialogue in Atlantic Africa in support of the Atlantic African States Process (AASP), lay the foundations for a parliamentary network dedicated to Atlantic Africa, and encourage structured and sustainable collaboration between member states.

It also seeks to strengthen parliamentary coordination on common issues related to sustainable resource management, maritime security, investment, and regional integration.

Additionally, it intends to encourage Parliaments to become a driving force for concrete proposals to support the implementation of commitments made in the AASP declarations.
