Liberia reaffirmed, Tuesday in New York, its support for the Autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007 with a view to reaching a final solution to the regional dispute over its Sahara.
Speaking before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, Liberia’s Representative affirmed that the Moroccan Initiative, which “aligns with Security Council guidance,” enjoys “broad international support.”
Liberia affirms its support for the UN-led political process and efforts by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, and invites all parties to engage constructively and in good faith in this process.
The Liberian diplomat also highlighted the significant socioeconomic progress made in the Kingdom’s Southern Provinces, driven by Morocco’s investment particularly in infrastructure development and energy.
In this regard, the West-African country hails Morocco’s “steadfast commitment” to sustainable development in its Southern Provinces, the diplomat concluded.
