Senegal reaffirms its ongoing commitment to work tirelessly to strengthen and expand cooperation with Morocco, in the spirit of the cultural, spiritual, and historical ties between the two peoples and in the best interests of both countries, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said Monday in Rabat.

Relations between the two nations are based in particular on centuries-old human, spiritual, economic, and cultural ties, as well as on political trust built up over time, Sonko said at the opening of the 15th Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission.

Emphasizing that the very dynamic economic and trade cooperation between the two countries can be further deepened, he noted that this meeting is intended to place the friendship between Morocco and Senegal back at the heart of public policy, revitalize the bilateral partnership, and enable the governments of both countries to establish a clear roadmap.

This meeting reflects a shared determination to give new impetus to cooperation between Rabat and Dakar, in accordance with the High Guidelines of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, he said, noting that it is also “an expression of the shared ambition of our two States to work towards consolidating the Senegal-Morocco strategic partnership in order to elevate it to the level of our two peoples’ expectations.”

On the occasion of this High Commission, the legal framework for our cooperation, which already includes over 130 agreements, will be expanded with the signing of new legal instruments covering virtually all key development sectors, he continued.

Similarly, Sonko expressed his belief that Senegal can count on the Kingdom as a reliable partner to achieve its development objectives, including the “National Transformation Agenda – Senegal 2050.”

In this vein, the Senegalese Prime Minister praised the positive contribution made by Moroccan companies to his country’s development, particularly those operating in the banking, insurance, agri-food, construction and public works, mining, pharmaceutical, energy, and other sectors.

Furthermore, Sonko noted that his visit to the Kingdom aims to reaffirm and reshape ties between Senegal and Morocco, two great nations that respect and recognize each other and move forward together.
