It is raining and snowing in several Moroccan provinces, with the same weather forecasted to continue through Monday.
The Moroccan Meteorology Office said that this forecast consists of snowfall in regions above 1,400 meters as well as heavy thunderstorms.
Snowfall amounting to 10 to 20 centimeters is expected in the provinces of Ifrane, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, and Guercif from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. today, and will continue in the same regions as well as in Midelt until 11 p.m. on Monday, the office said.
Snow will also fall in the provinces of Khenifra, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaoun from 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday.
Heavy rain amounting to 40 to 60 millimeters is set to hit northern provinces such as Chefchaouen, Fahs Anjra, and Mdiq-Fnideq. Rainy weather will also impact the provinces of Larache, Al Hoceima, Tangier-Assilah, Ouezzane, and Taounate, with 30 to 40 millimeters expected from 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday.
Several other provinces are witnessing rainy and cold weather, including in the Rabat region.
The wet weather is good news for Morocco’s agriculture, which has been suffering under rough and dry seasons due to six consecutive years of drought.
Last year in December, Morocco’s equipment ministry recorded a drop in water levels in Moroccan dams and basins across the country.
To tackle the challenging agriculture situation, Morocco has resorted to various initiatives, including increasing its wheat and red meat imports.
