Spanish authorities have publicly commended Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) for its instrumental role in dismantling an ISIS-linked terror cell on November 22.
The cell, composed of nine members operating in Morocco and Spain, posed what officials described as a “real threat” to both countries’ security.
In an X post today, the Spanish National Police lauded the joint operation, calling it a model of international cooperation.
“The collaboration of Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) was decisive in dismantling this cell,” the post read.
The coordinated raids targeted six individuals in Madrid, Ibiza, Ceuta, and three others in Tetouan and Fnideq.
Weapons and electronic devices were seized, and evidence linked the suspects to ISIS extremist ideology and intentions to carry out violent acts.
On Monday, Spain’s National Court ordered the detention of the six suspects arrested on its soil. Some of the individuals have prior convictions for terrorism-related offenses.
Spanish authorities described the suspects as “highly radicalized and fully adhered to the postulates of ISIS.”
The joint security operation mirrors the shared commitment of Morocco and Spain to combating threats such as terrorism and drug trafficking.
These major busts and joint operations further Morocco exemplifies commitment to strengthening counterterrorism efforts and combating all forms of crime within global cooperation.
