Spain and Morocco, with their complementary economies, are called upon to join forces to become a strategic gateway to Africa and Latin America, said Antonio Garamendi, president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), on Wednesday in Madrid.
Speaking at the Spain-Morocco business meeting, Garamendi highlighted the strength of relations between Rabat and Madrid, marked by close cooperation in the commercial and economic fields, emphasizing that the two countries now have the opportunity to strengthen their synergies to respond to global challenges and stimulate growth.
The CEOE president noted that key sectors such as water management, energy, and mobility offer considerable potential for deepening bilateral cooperation, pointing out that Moroccan and Spanish companies are already engaged in several strategic projects for the development of both economies.
Garamendi also emphasized Morocco’s growing importance as the leading destination for Spanish investment in Africa, noting that one-third of Spanish investment flows to the continent are directed to the Kingdom. This dynamic, he said, illustrates the stability and diversification of bilateral economic ties.
He also highlighted the special relationship between the CEOE and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), noting that the two organizations share a common agenda and a common ambition to take entrepreneurial cooperation to the next level.
The president of the Spanish employers’ association also pointed out that Spain is a natural gateway to Europe and a bridge to Latin America, while Morocco acts as a strategic gateway to Africa, emphasizing the need for both countries to capitalize on this positioning in order to become a hub connecting two regions with strong potential.
